Finally the Rockies!

Not TGIF but TG I’m in Banff!!

Fresh air, it's much cooler & MOUNTAINS!

My bedroom window here @ the hostel looks out on to a couple (albeit with one there is a ?? chimney ?? tower of some sort there as well)!!

Early morning & I can hear birds!

Yesterday whilst the bus was dropping passengers @ hotels, we saw an elk/deer (the driver wasn't sure) feeding just off the sidewalk - it was unconcerned to be almost surrounded by tourists!!

could only get a rear view!

I was not imagining the heat in Toronto, altho’ It was around 30 even the weather forecast was saying it felt like @ least 40!! So glad to be out of there!! Apart from there being no elevator @ the subway station my trip to the airport was uneventful after all my panic! Went early & that was good & was happy to trade the heat for the boring, sprawling airport! BTW the transit system was cheap!! $3 bought me travel on 2 subways & a bus to the airport! As I’ve said before ACTION could learn a thing or 2!!

Once on the shuttle bus from Calgary airport, my heart & spirits lifted as the mountains appeared in the distance. There were some amazing cloud formations, but too much reflection on the window to get a decent picture - not for lack of trying of course!!

& I don’t care if the town of Banff is very commercialised & geared to tourists - some of the shops stay open until midnight, it‘s not a city!

Had the most extraordinary experience last night, was looking to have a proper sit-down meal but it was getting late, got sick of looking, so went in to the Old Spaghetti Factory. Now given that I try to avoid eating spag publicly as I make such a mess of it only did this as they had a cheese lovers dish & spinach salad. When I was finally seated, the sassy waitress who came to take my order said: “The lady over there would like to buy your meal for you, so please order absolutely anything you would like!!!!”

I could hardly believe it!! This has never happened to me before in my whole life! Perhaps I reminded her of her long lost grandmother or something!! She was in early 30’s possibly & altho’ with another woman they didn’t look like dykes (& my “gaydar” is usually pretty good), but perhaps they were, so picked me for an OWL!! I tried to go over to speak to her, but got my leg stuck under the table (I am really so awkward in any social setting), so beckoned her over & asked her if she was serious & she was!!! So altho’ it didn’t change my order & I felt extremely embarrassed, it was a lovely, unique & unexpected gesture! Of course I made a hash of my thanks afterwards!

The moon was up as I made my way back down the main street, & someone stopped me & asked me what I was photographing!!!

And oh yes, wi-fi is not free here - so counting the minutes to upload photos!
